Assalámu `alaykum wa rahmatulláhi wa barakátuhu,
The Hubb Arts Centre is a new and innovative space launching shortly at the very heart of inner-city Birmingham. The Hubb is the brainchild of award-winning street-artist Mohammed Ali aka Aerosol Arabic/Soul City Arts. The venue will be utilised for public exhibitions, workshops and performances and is one of the first grass roots arts venues of its kind in the city.
The launch will be celebrated with a number of high-profile artists, performers and figures representing faith communities such as Sheikh Jihad Brown, an American scholar who will deliver a presentation on the relationship of art and spirituality. Amir Al-Islam, the chairman of IMAN – a Chicago based grassroots organisation will speak about social change through the arts. Peter Sanders, a leading British photographer will be delivering a slideshow of his latest photographic work. Birmingham’s former Poet Laureate, Dreadlock Alien will be on-hand performing an ensemble of cutting-edge verse and prose.
Mohammed Ali will personally host the evenings proceedings and welcome people to the new centre. The Hubb is set to become a dynamic and creative hive spearheading regeneration through the arts of some of our most neglected areas and giving young people motivation, inspiration and confidence. Mohammed will also screen a special preview of the short film of his grounbreaking sell-out theatre show the Writing On The Wall.
Mohammed Ali will also be exhibiting some of his canvas, alongside the art of Abdas Samad ZamZami. Peter Sanders will also be selling some of his prints.
Launch event: Thursday 29th April 2010, 6pm-8pm
